SATs Test Papers

On these pages you are able to download the Statutory Assessment Tests. The sample images link directly to the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority website download files which are openly available to anyone who is interested in the materials (please observe the QCA copyright conditions).

Children undertake SATs tests at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (also referred to as KS1 and KS2). Since 2005 Year 2 SATs assessment has depended less on formal testing and no new KS1 tests are available.

KS2 SATs tests follow a similar format every year and many primary schools give their Year 6 pupils experience of previous SATs papers so they are familiar with the format and not disadvantaged by not previously having worked with them.

Our advice is that when you download the tests don't immediately expect your child to undertake them as if under 'test' conditions. It would be much more helpful to your child if you analyzed the types of questions they will encounter. Work together with them to show strategies that could be used to solve problems, how to use the texts to find clues to answer the questions and what they should do if they encounter difficulties.

KS1 is the period of education from 5-7 Years also known as infants Year1 and Infants Year2.

KS2 is the period of education from 7-11 Years also known as Junior Years 3,4,5 and 6.

It might be the case that your child is still only 6 years old or 10 years old in the summer term during which they are undertaking SATs in their current format. This is quite normal - they are the younger children in their year group.
